The Battle of Seringapatam, fought in 1799, marked the final defeat of Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore, at the hands of the British East India Company and their allies, the Marathas and the Nizam of Hyderabad. It was the culmination of the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, which had been ongoing since 1798. The siege of Seringapatam lasted from 5 March to 4 May 1799, and involved a concerted British effort to capture the city, which had been the stronghold of Tipu Sultan’s power.
